WATER TREATMENT FOR POOLS AND WATER FEATURES

Swimming pools, recreational lakes, fountains and water features share many common problems associated with poor water quality management. Most were designed with little thought toward any maintenance other than filtration (usually not enough) and chlorination (usually too much).

The resulting contamination, debris, turbidity, staining and offensive odor distract from the intended purpose, whether aesthetic or environmental. Scale and slime build-up lowers the efficiency of the filtration and heating systems.

Swimmers are familiar with the obvious disadvantages of chlorine-treated pools: eye and skin irritation, offensive odor, and in severe cases, lung irritations and breathing difficulties. Byproducts of chlorination have been linked to cancer. Workers in indoor pools have been stricken with hypersensitivity pneumonitis, or farmers' lung disease.

Chlorine also poses a safety threat to workers. Most large pools utilize chlorine gas - the same deadly gas used as a weapon during World War I. Strict safety precautions must be followed in the handling and disposal of this chemical. Fire codes and building codes mandate special requirements for storage rooms and delivery systems.

The Ozone Alternative

Many public and private swimming pools now enjoy the benefits of ozone: crystal clear water, no odors or irritants, lower energy usage, softer water, no staining or mineral build-up, and better disinfection than chlorine-treated pools.

The City Parks Recreation Center pool in Westminster, Colorado changed over to ozone water treatment after closing down twice due to health problems. Their state-of-the-art water treatment system was designed according to the German DIN Standard, since no such standards exist in this country for ozone treatment. After nine months of close monitoring, the Colorado Department of Health approved the reopening of the pool October 9, 1993. The mayor, Nancy Heil, stated that since reopening the "ozone water treatment plant...has worked beautifully. We are very excited that none of the lifeguard staff has experienced any type of abnormal respiratory problems since. To top it off, the pool environment is exceptional!"

The Ozonex Approach

Using highly reliable ozone generators that are designed for easy servicing, advanced monitoring and control, and an exclusive ozone "recycling" method, Ozonex swimming pool systems are available in sizes for large private pools and almost all municipal and public pools. Many engineers and owners are impressed by the simplicity of design and ease of installation. Maintenance is minimal, and Ozonex offers 24 hour remote monitoring for the utmost "peace of mind".
